I consider myself to be fairly profiecient in many technologies but after seeing the list of software and programs that we can use as educators, I am eager to learn about all of these tools. As a Biology major, I know that for many of the concepts that the students will need to know for the Regents exam, many terms and vocabulary words need to be known. My fieldwork has shown that students usually do not remember these terms and concepts after the test. I know that there must be ways to help students retain this information for a longer amount of time than just for the test, and I'm really hoping that technology and the programs we're going to learn about will help with this.
I also know that students these days (all students, of every age level) are so connected my technology, whether it be facebook, blogs, twitter etc. and I know that we can use this to our advantage. It does not only need to be a social thing, but most certainly a LEARNING experience. A lot of teachers today see technology and these social networks as a distraction to students, and try to eliminate it - but I think we should use this connection to our advantage- and I hope to learn how I could do this by using the things I learn in this class.
